WHAT CAN I DO TO PREPARE MY FURNACE FOR WINTER?
You should always have your furnace serviced and your heater tune-up by a highly skilled and experienced technicians, but there are also some steps that you can take on your own to keep your home more comfortable this winter.
- Replace the filters.
One of the most common causes for an HVAC system to break down is dust and dirt accumulating in the filtering system leading to the need for a heater tune-up. So replace those air filters at least once every three months (more often if you have pets with fur). Dirty filters make your system work harder, which means lower efficiency, which means you’re spending more money to keep your home cozy. - Have a soundcheck.
Turn on your furnace, and listen for unusual sounds – things like rattling or banging. If anything seems out of the ordinary, get one of our technicians out there right away to correct the issue. - Turn on your heater at least 3 times before winter is in full swing and get a heater tune-up.
The best offense is a good defense – so get the heater going early just to check that everything is operating as you expect it to. Set the thermostat to your usual winter temperature and let your home get there before you turn off the air. While you’re at it, make sure that each room is getting to the right comfort level. - Check for signs of moisture.
